UFC goes to Boston for first time with UFC 118: Penn vs. Edgar 2

For a city that has developed many Ultimate Fighting Championship® fighters and that is steeped in sports history, finally Boston will get to witness world-class mixed martial arts in its own backyard. After a back-and-forth instant classic at UFC® 112 in April, which saw Frankie Edgar shock the mixed martial arts world and take the UFC lightweight strap from around BJ Penn’s waist, the two will square off again on Saturday, August 28 at UFC 118: EDGAR VS. PENN 2, which is live from the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and presented by TapouT®. Also featured on this stacked card, UFC legend Randy Couture takes on boxing legend James Toney in a true grappler vs. striker matchup as Toney makes his highly anticipated mixed martial arts debut. It will be a matchup of two impressive Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts as dangerous foot-lock specialist Rousimar Palhares takes on the well-rounded Nate Marquardt, and in a battle for the next top lightweight contender spot, Gray Maynard will be swimming in shark-infested waters as he fights Boston-product Kenny Florian.

If the answer doesn’t include the names Benson Henderson and Donald Cerrone then you’ve either got credibility issues or failed to watch these two fighters wage a riveting, back-and-forth battle for the interim WEC lightweight title in what became an instant classic and sparked a furious debate regarding which man should have had his hand raised (Henderson, incidentally, was awarded a unanimous decision, though the “unanimous” part makes one seriously wonder whether the ringside judges understood how to properly score Cerrone’s numerous submissions that threatened to end the fight).

First Domination Fight

9/6, Gods of War, tried to use the ole' 1-2 but the guy must have needed to use the bathroom badly or something. He must have thought this was a rooster fight because he scratched instead of punched. Had to get a few stitches in the left eyelid from Mr. Scissorhands. Next time I plan to use Muay Thai defense with hands held high to prevent those sneaky wide left hooks, use my wrestling background to ground and pound, and maybe learn a submission or two. I just wanted to focus on my hand striking in this one. My right seemed to work pretty well. I thought more technique than power as I wanted to make sure I stuck to the gameplan. My corner guy helped out a lot as he was just inducted in the martial Arts Hall of Fame of Muay Thai. Worked a lot of UFC events too. I was spoiled lol. I am looking forward to the next one!
